Top menu trick only works with panasonic players to my knowledge so you need one to do it. When the region error message comes, just press stop and then top menu button. Should load it normally.

The top menu trick seems to work for all discs published after summer 2010. I would say anything from 2011 forwards will work. Hope this helps.
