    Okay, I was going to explain why I said "racist," but...that would lead the conversation into entirely different grounds. Grounds that have little to do with that clip. And you're right, 100%. The quote ends up saying more about the types of people the Republican Party CAN attract rather than Atwater's views.

    The doc does not really go into detail over this because it portrays him as a guy that really had no strong political agenda himself. According to the doc, he was more preoccupied with aligning himself with the winning party. You get the sense that it was only a matter of happenstance that he started working for the Republican Party.

    Hey, sorry for the late response, but I quoted you in the CC thread. I would be VERY curious to hear your thoughts on the doc because it didn't, not for a second, paint Atwater as a racist. And like I said in the main thread, this type of mentality was only hinted at in the doc.
