Hello, and thank you, APP. My tastes in movies vary greatly. I can appreciate anything of quality (I know the word quality can be relative), but I'm looking to try new things. The Criterion Collection contains several films I like, and countless more that I have never seen. My Dinner With Andre interests me. I just watched 12 Angry Men all the way through the night before last, and loved it. That one will be going in my collection this week.
I guess, more than anything, I'm looking to broaden my horizons. There are some outstanding films coming out, but so much of it is mindless crap. Too many films that are flat out remakes, or highly derivative. Give me a pair of great actors and a skillful director that knows how to get out of the way, and let the magic happen. When I watched Angry, I never felt Sidney Lumet was being heavy-handed. I like strong dialogue, and interesting narrative.
You might look through the collection I've assembled thus far.
I'd be happy to offer you suggestions for Criterion releases to add to your collection. What kinds of films are you looking for mostly? What kind are most important to you? Are you mostly interested in traditional storytelling? Or you that also a fan of arthouse films? Are you looking to add subtitled foreign films to your collection? Sorry, if that response seems kind of formal, feel free to answer however you want.
