For some reason I did not see your comment until just now. Seems like we agree actually. It's certainly true that migration, and subsequent geographic separation, of the human species is the prior condition of the genetic differentiation that result in on-average differences in physical appearance separating folks like me, with DNA of recent European origin, from folks with DNA of recent African origin. (I say "recent" in both cases because obviously, on a longer timeline, all human DNA is African in origin.) If it sounded like I was denying this material fact on the way to discussing the meanings humans give to these differences, my apologies. Cheers and happy new year.

Hello! Please forgive me if you do not want PMs. If you do not respond or if you express your displeasure I will NOT bother you again.
I read with interest and sympathy your post about "skin color" in the Criterion Release comments. I cheered your eloquent defense of exploring other people's HISTORIES, and how important that is. However, I am having difficulty understanding your denial of genetics. I know for a fact my light hair color is because of genetics, not because of the shared experiences of my European ancestors. Likewise my constantly sunburning light skin color. Amounts and types of melanin are determined by shared genetics.
I do understand and agree with your statement that complexion does not intrinsically mean anything. We are all the same race. People have different histories AND different genetics.
Please, if I am misunderstanding your message, I request that you try to clarify if you have the energy for it. Thank you.
