Have you watched 'London Boulevard' yet?

Also, I was curious what you thought of 'Branded to Kill'. I have had my eye on that Criterion for some time now, but for whatever reason just haven't picked it up yet. What did you think?

    Have a good weekend, Todd!

I loved Caliber 9. Big part of that had to do with the amazing, hypnotizing score. I also liked the ending. Italian Connection felt like an American buddy cop film from the 70's. Or maybe I was too tired. It had some great scenes though. Mario Adorf was much better(the car chase scene was brilliant) as I felt he overacted on the Caliber 9. The Boss was good. Silva was great. Especially enjoyed seeing Richard Conte. Rulers of the City was a fun flick. I really liked it but I thought the very ending was a bit disappointing. It was too comedic for my taste. Overall I enjoyed every single one of these four films.

Hard to pick favorites but if I'd have to, I'd probably say Caliber 9 and then Rulers of the City or The Boss and then Italian Connection. But like I said, I enjoyed them all and my opinions might change when I'll visit them again. One thing is for sure. I can not wait for the second Di Leo box set coming up this fall!

What did you think of the first 3 films?

Here is a quote from Pro-B's review of the UK disc. (Don't worry, no spoilers here) but it is a great summation of the film:

"Very dark, very entertaining and very, very different, Pedro Almodovar's The Skin I Live In is one of the year's best films. Do not read reviews and do not watch trailers, just see it. I guarantee you will have a terrific time with it."

    Couldn't agree more!

Nice! I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did.

Pro-B actually recommended the film to me, and gave me the same instructions, no trailers and no reviews! I think it was one of Pro-B's favorites from 2011 as well. It was remarkable though, so many different tones in the film. It truly blew my mind! (Might I add also, that I thought it one of the most unique presentations I have witnessed.) There are elements from so many genres and the presentation of the story is so remarkable, especially after you finish the film. The character progression, and all of the events you witness eventually start tying together, and from there...

Nice! I will send you a PM some time soon and tell you my story, if you weren't already sold on Oppo, you will certainly be after you hear my story. Bottom line though: They are the best company ever.

    Hey Todd!

Watched 'The Skin I Live In' last night. Fantastic film. Definitely among my favorites of 2011. I highly recommend though, if you plan on watching it, do not watch any trailers, nor read any review of it! Save them for after you see it... as many of them contain some pretty bad spoilers, but I must add it would be impossible to review the film without spoiling a portion of the plot. Bravo though! Bravo!

I've been on a buying rampage with all of these price drops. But with my new television, I'm definitely looking forward to experiencing them.

Hey buddy! So, I am not sure if you are still in the market for a Region Free player, but my friend....Oppo must be your choice. I have the most wonderful customer service story to share with you some time. I will send you a PM and let you know what happened....bottom line though: Oppo is the best company EVER!

Finally got my di Leo set! It arrived crushed, but it's here! Watched Dirty Carnival today. What a great gangster film. A bit slow here and there but overall I was pleasantly surprised. Might even buy it when the price is right. Such a sad ending though. Going to watch Caliber 9 tonight!

edit. I feel like I'm talking to myself here. Hah. Watched Caliber 9 today. Wow. Awesome film and what a great score. Loved the extras also. I already feel I've spent my money well. I can't believe the reviews on this site and especially at highdefdigest. I thought Caliber 9 looked stunning. Though I've only seen the first film I can't believe the others wouldn't be as good or even better. Can't wait to see the second part of the trilogy, The Italian Connection.

I definitely agree. La Haine is a brilliant film and I'd love to double dip if Criterion decides to release it(why wouldn't they?). I'm about to go to bed and watch Apocalypse Now Redux. I enjoyed the original but I've yet to see this one. I doubt I'll stay awake for 3 hours though! Hope it's good. Have a good one!

edit. Oops. I had no idea Criterion already announced they're releasing La Haine in May!
