Thanks for the details on the numbers Blucollect. They really did well with Frozen so it would be sad if they pass up the blu ray 3D disc in the US. The UK or overseas is already confirmed for blu 3D, but no word on a US release other than digital 3D for $35.
We'll see how it plays out soon enough. Thanks again.

    Blucollect,

Good point about close to 1 billion dollars in ticket sales so far on Frozen 3D in theaters. That is huge. For Disney to deny the 3D element at home would be a mistake. With no announcement yet for a blu ray 3D release in the US for Frozen 3D, I wonder if Disney's new marketing director is testing the viability of digital sales, by offering the 3D only digitally at first in the US, to try to earn more since digital sales are much cheaper to offer and avoid the cost of producing and distributing physical discs.
That was Microsoft's initial strategy with the XBox One in 2013, which they quickly 180'ed after the consumer backlash regarding digital only games. Many of us still value a physical disc, and blu ray 3D for Frozen is the only way I'll check out the 3D version at home, avoiding a digital 3D purchase.

I hope you are right. That would be a good move by Disney for consumers to be able to get Frozen 3D blu ray. To not release it on home video and only digital would be a mistake in many customers' eyes.

so is the plan Disney has for this title absolutely confirmed in North America?

Yes, the Digital 3D Copy will only run on 3D capable TV with a 3D capable input device (3D Blu-ray players, PS3/4, etc.) It pretty much limits you to Vudu or any provider capable of being on a 3D capable Input Device. And yes, that copy will be limited only to the provider you purchased it.

And yes, Frozen's release will be handled as it is with Oz. the DigitalCopyPlus code will be redeemable with only one provider of your choice. Once you select the provider on the DigitalCopyPlus website and redeem the code on the provider of your choice, your copy is limited to the provider you selected unless things change with Disney.

And although you can now redeem DigitalCopyPlus codes on Vudu directly (you can't do that with iTunes), DigitalCopyPlus will not allow you to redeem it for another provider when it has been redeemed directly on Vudu. The DigitalCopyPlus website will know you redeemed it on Vudu and include a link to Vudu.

so for Frozen, any title that has a digital 3D copy is only for TV's of stereoscopic capability right?

this format limits you to Vudu or any other provider and it can only be used on one service thats it.

again for Frozen, will this release in the proper way in the usual manner or will this plan of going to vudu with a redemption choice of any provider limiting to you one provider go in play for this one?

Regarding the possible implementation of KeyChest or joining UV, we'll have to see. I haven't heard anything since Disney Movies Online was shut down.

For Frozen, I can't imagine Disney offering a Digital 3D copy thru DigitalCopy+, as DigitalCopy+ is only for Digital Copies included in the combo pack. I haven't have seen any distributor offer a Digital 3D copy with a BD Combo Pack. The Digital 3D Copy is a Digital Only product available thru supported providers such as Vudu. I don't know if purchasing a Digital 3D copy includes a Digital 2D copy (you would have to hope with a price of $33 it does). Either way, buying a Digital 3D copy thru Vudu or any other provider will limit you to that provider.

Regarding your message, Disney's DigitalCopy+ is just a system that allows Blu-ray owners to pick which provider they want to redeem their digital copy with. Only one service provider can be selected. Either iTunes, Vudu, or other services (depending on the release). It's not a alternative to UV or KeyChest (Disney's proposed service that would work like UV). DigitalCopy+ just makes it easier to redeem the digital copy (as previously the only logical choice was iTunes, no one could do much with a protected Windows Media file). But certainly if Disney finally releases KeyChest or joins UV, I could see them offering Digital Copy owners additional flexibility in the future (Disney Movies Online, in its limited life, did allow those who redeemed their DC Combo Pack codes on DMR to view the movie online thru the site).
