Thanks. Hopefully Disney is giving 3D more opportunities in the US for their big box office films at least.

    Blu,
The 3D in Pixels was great, mostly strong 3D. Agreed.
The easiest way for a studio to proceed is to add a virtual 3D camera rig into the CGI realm and just render both views. Then with the live action human scenes, just composite in the CGI 3D and then have the live action converted to match that strength of 3D. They did an awesome job here.

    Hi Blu Collect,

Yes, I caught Pixels 3D in theaters and the 3D is strong most of the way. I wasn't disappointed in the 3D. The classic arcade game characters were fun to see interact in the real world.

Also, if you like The Wind Rises, its theme song is available digitally separately from the digital soundtrack. A few of the digital albums (like Kiki's Delivery Service) don't have all of the songs found on their physical soundtracks, likely because Studio Ghibli doesn't have the rights to license certain songs digitally. And while iTunes is better than other digital music stores in terms of International music, it still doesn't have a lot of songs available in the US.

Sadly, Totoro's English song does not appear to be available in any known music format.

In terms of the songs from Studio Ghibli films that were translated or created for the English dubs, the out of print Princess Mononoke US soundtrack has the theme song in English. Ponyo's English song is available (both in the original style and as a remix) digitally as singles. And Bridgit Mendler's Summertime, which is featured in the end credits of The Secret World of Arrietty, is also available digially as a single.

In terms of the soundtracks, I believe it is Studio Ghibli that owns foreign music rights. Both the US soundtracks to Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away were not distributed by Walt Disney Records or Hollywood Records, and were released by Milan Records (both US releases are out of print).

Although Tokuma Communications may still distribute the CDs in Japan, it appears that Studio Ghibli owns the digital music rights to their soundtracks. iTunes has almost all the Studio Ghibli Soundtracks and a handful of Image Albums available digitally worldwide, and copyright on all of the digital soundtracks is credited to Studio Ghibli.

Good question. If there's a live lion, they can either convert the lion into 3D using a single view, then doubling the view and offsetting the second view to make the image pop when blended into one, or just film that live action lion, then merge it carefully with rendered 3D later on. Most times, the CGI computer graphics are easiest to render with a virtual camera in the program.

No, but if it was used it's not surprising.

I'm not personally familiar with either title, but a search of the BD.com database would have revealed both are anaglyph only.

I dunno about If I Stay. I haven't watched the film yet.

And I am not sure if the way the copyright owners are listed tells much about whose the majority owner of the film. Interstellar lists "Warner Bros. Entertainment and Paramount Pictures" at the end credits (WB distributed Interstellar internationally while Paramount handled North America distribution). I think it just indicates that both companies own the copyright of the film. A reason why Warner Bros. may be listed ahead sometimes (in both the case of Interstellar and If I Stay) is that Warner Bros. is the partner with International Distribution.
