    Hi Svet,

    I hope you're doing well.

I've just noticed the discussion in the news comments about the Paris Texas restoration and decided to make a quick screenshot comparison between the Criterion BD, the 2019 Studiocanal BD with the 2014 4K-2K restoration (bad Éclair grade) and the new Janus trailer of the 40th Anniversary 4K restoration to showcase the color differences. I didn't have the time to match the frames 100% but that wasn't my intention. The new 4K grade (done by Wenders and his longtime colorist) looks significantly better than the Éclair job when compared side-by-side. Please keep in mind that I've never gotten a chance to see the film theatrically but to my eyes, the new 4K restoration looks really good in SDR already. I thought you might appreciate this until the inevitable Criterion UHD comes out. https://slow.pics/c/4CifDFKf

    Have a great week!

    Nic

    Hey Claude,

The Unseen -- What you are seeing are inherited age-related imperfections. This film has hot been fully/properly restored. I think that by "projection holes" you mean cue marks, which are common on old prints. They have appeared on internegatives. Reconstructive work can introduce all kinds of things as well.

OCN for theatrical projection -- Yes. During the Cold War era, East European and Soviet censors and Party elites had theatrical screenings of OCNs. It is how they damaged/destroyed many, and now the best elements for various films are second/third generation.

Hello Dr. Atanasov, I've just watched The Unseen (Via Vision/Imprint release, from their "The Uninvited/The Unseen" box set). This blu-ray is said to be "sourced from an exclusive new 2K master struck from the original camera negative". I was wondering why the presentation is plagued with projection holes throughout. Have you ever seen (or... unseen) or heard of a movie for which the ORIGINAL CAMERA NEGATIVE has been used for theatrical PROJECTION? Thanks for your time! Have a nice day! Claude Rioux, Montreal

Hi, Doc. Since I'm searching for quotes on internet, I found some based on some films you reviewed:
    1) Videodrome: "The dark side of social media is that, within seconds, anything can be blown out of proportion and taken out of context. And it’s very difficult not to get swept up in it all" — Nicola Formichetti
    2) After Hours: "The truth is you don't know what is going to happen tomorrow. Life is a crazy ride, and nothing is guaranteed." - Eminem
    3) Wings of Desire: "What we have once enjoyed we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us." - Helen Keller
    3) Three Colors: "Where there is love there is life. - Mahatma Gandhi
    4) A Clockwork Orange: "To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that's all." - Oscar Wilde
    5) Network: “In the business of exploitation, the exploiter and exploited, both are corrupt.”
    — Areeba Tayyab
    I just want your opinion.

Hi Doc Could I ask you a favour? Since I was banned to contribute to the site due to I broke all the rules, could you do some uploads for me? By the way are you familiar with Greek actor Thanasis Veggos? His films are funny but at the same time dramatic because he symbolises the innocence of our society, his films based on his real life character show a satirical look on the humiliation, the dirt, the corruption of our society and how a man kind-hearted and honest with some doses of madness can survive. It reminds me two quotes from very wise persons:
1)" You're only given a little spark of madness. You mustn't lose it." Robin Williams
    2) "Honesty is often very hard. The truth is often painful. But the freedom it can bring is worth the trying". – Fred Rogers

    Hi Kevin,

I had to look up twice to find the typo you mentioned I have the TV Version correctly listed as being 218 minutes long in the review text, but in the bonus section I apparently assigned it the Theatrical Cut running time. It was very late when I was coding the article, so I must have mixed up the two. I have made a correction, and yes, the second disc has the complete 218-minute version.

    Have a great week, Kevin

(No need for titles, just Svet is perfect ).

Dear Dr. Atanasov, I really enjoyed your review of the The Last Emperor, which I have already pre-ordered directly from Criterion. I already own the previous Criterion Blu-Ray/DVD release. I have one request. Would you please clarify in your review whether the Blu-ray Disc Two contains a 218-minute Television version (as Criterion claims on its website) or a 164-minute Blu-ray version (as you state in your review). Is it true that the Blu-ray version is only 1 minute longer than the 4K version? The comparison section of your review seems to indicate 163-minute 4K vs. 218-minute, not 164-minute Blu-ray. Thank you, and keep up the good work! Kevin Courtemanche
