On the Beach: While the film was almost certainly screened in the 1.66:1 ratio in Europe, it was in fact shot in 1.85:1. The current master is in 1.66:1 because it was prepared a while ago and for various reasons MGM had many international and especially European productions from the same era framed incorrectly. (Another such title is John Frankenheimer's The Train).

Thank you for the heads up about the UK version of Hamlet. I picked it up for $12.87. Will be here in 6-10 business days. I would like the extras that ultimately come with a Criterion release, but in the mean time, I do want the film itself, so I'm thrilled it will be here. Much appreciated!!
