Thanks for your recommendation regarding the Maxell Blu-Ray laser lens cleaner. How often do you use that on your player? I am thinking I might give that a try prior to sending my player back.
One other question, since my player won't recognize discs when I put them in, do you have to be able to hit 'Play' in order for the cleaning system to work? As that might not work for me since it won't play any discs as it does not even recognize that they are in the tray of the player.
Thanks for your help and suggestions!

Yeah, your settings are correct. I'm using the same method but with a Denon AVR.
I think the advice from Oppo is bad and if you have the i/p scaler turned off in your AVR there should be no issue. On my AVR the i/p scaler can be set to A to H or A to H + H to H, or off. A stands for Analog. H stands for HDMI
So this means Analoge to HDMI or Analog to HDMI + Low res HDMI to 1080P HDMI. It is all bollicks anyway the signals from most player are soo good anyway so I just switch to off. This is why Oppo have tried to avoid the AVR because one of the other setting could muck arround with it.
So check your 605. If it has a i/p setting. Turn it off.
Also remember. Not all DVD's are equal. I have found recent Warners DVD's unwatchable. Macro blocking as you explained. Sh*t in equals upscaled sh*t out. Nothing can be done.
You could also take the HDMI coming from your AVR and plug into the Oppo HDMI just for a quick test to see if there is a difference. 5 minute job. Ta Dono
