Thanks for the great info. I just reread your response regarding the 805 receivers amp section.
I just tried some 570 watt rms amps and they did make a small but overall noticeable difference in sound. It did take listening to 5 or so songs over and over about 3 to 4 times each, but in the end after level matching I could tell a difference for better detail and a larger soundstage with the 570 watt rms monoblocks from wyred 4 sound.

How much do you want for your umc-1?

I actually just ordered a umc-1 from Emotiva but I do have a 30 day trial period.

I also ordered the emotiva upa-7 (125 watts X 7) amplifier too. I'm thinking it will give a bit more of the sound I experienced with the 570 watt monoblocks.

My speakers have a sensitivity of 105db / 1watt @ 1 meter so they don't require much power at all to get into high volume. According to my math they only require 32 watts to get 120db volume and with 108 watts they will provide 126 db of sound.

I'm quite excited to see what kind of difference in sound quality the umc-1 will provide to music and movies.

The wyred for sound dac-2 provided more sound quality than the 570watt amps did. The dac-2 and the amps gave a much more level sound field. There were many sounds that could barely be heard with my onkyo 805 that were obviously there when using the dac-2 and the SX-1000 monoblocks.

I can see that to get a bit better sound than the 805 requires quite a bit of massaging, but I'll take any bit of improved sound quality I can get.

The 2 channel stereo sound with the 805 and my sub in the mix using the sx-1000 monoblocks was nothing short of amazing.

For some reason I can't reply to your messages so I have to post on your wall here.

The volume with my 106db sensitivity Klipsch La Scalas is way more than enough for me. In fact, I can have the volume at a level where I can't hear my voice when screaming at the top of my lungs and then turn it up louder without distortion. They used to use just 2 of those speakers for concerts of 8000 people.

What I'd be looking for is more detail and clarity from the sound at lower volumes.

Someone is selling the lpa-1 for $350 plus shipping (same as upa 7 except a bit less power for channels 6 and 7 at 50 watts or it can be 6X 125. The 6 X 125 would work well since I need 6 channels for my front speaker setup (using active crossover for a 2 way la scala project for the front 3).

I wonder what the guys at Emotiva have coming out now since many things are out of stock?

Thank you so much for all of the info. You are a really good source. Thanks for the quick replies.

How much are you selling the umc-1 for?

It's so hard to figure out what is significant or not by just reading peoples posts online. I've read quite a few posts that say the 805 is something of a goldmine in performance figures of it's amp section. You have the 805 now or had it in the past right? If so, the lpa-7 would have a noticeable advantage to the 805 for sound quality and detail? I know the lpa-7 would be better than almost any receivers amps, but just clarifying that you have experience with the 805.

They sound very good to me, but I've never listened to separates with these speakers. I have heard that the best receivers approached the sound quality of separates but wasn't sure I believed it. There is always the upgrade bug right?

I am building a setup that will require 8 channels of power (all three fronts will need to be bi ampped due to using active crossovers to make my la scalas into 2 way speakers.

I will need to buy at least one channel of amplification to use my system since the 805 can only power 7 channels.

In looking for that extra channel, I keep thinking of adding separates to all 6 channels of for my three front speakers. I am finally enjoying music again with the great sound quality of the la scala speakers. I'm wondering if they can sound even better with better amps. Once again these speakers require very little power so a separate amp might just have the better quality at lower wattage than the 805 does.

What is your opinion on this?

Hello. I was just reading a post that you made regarding using an emotiva separate amp vs high end receivers.

I have a Onkyo 805 currently. I know you stated that it was the best bang for your buck, but stated a marrantz sounded better overall.

I was just wondering what kind of difference I can expect in sound quality by going to a separate amp setup vs my onkyo 805?

I currently amp running 3 large Klipsch La Scala's for fronts with 2 Klipsch Heresies for rears. Theses are all from the Klipsch Heritage series. The La Scalas are very sensitive with a sensitivity of 106 db/watt@1meter. They do not require much power. In fact I can play them to a volume where I cannot hear myself screaming at the top of my lungs and turn them up louder with no distortion or strain of the speakers with my onkyo 805.

Maybe what I think Tasty Wheat tasted like actually tasted like, uhh, oatmeal, or uhh, tuna fish? That makes you wonder about a lot of things, like you take chicken for example, maybe they couldn't figure out what to make chicken taste like, which is why chicken tastes like everything!"
