Thankyou for your thoughts on Tim Burton's version of Sweeney Todd. I had forgotten that Sam Mendes was active not only as a Film Director but always very active in Live Theatre as well. No wonder he does so well with actors bringing out their best performances.

Thought I'd touch base with you on that Tim Burton related thread we were interested in. Why did Sam Mendes back out of Sweeney Todd allowing Tim Burton to walk into directing the Sondheim musical? Mendes directed a television production of Sondheim's Company. Was it done well? Just curious how you believe it would have benefited from this other director at the helm.

Hey, do you have the UK Godfather Trilogy? Do you know if there are portuguese subtitles?

    Thanks!

I have just thought of a few other Doctor Who related stuff.

There are two spin-offs as well - There's Torchwood, which is a more adult version of Doctor Who. And there's The Sarah Jane Adventures, which is a more children's version of Doctor Who.
For now, until you've got into Doctor Who I would ignore these, they're brilliant, but just focus your attention on Doctor Who.

There have also been a couple of Doctor Who animations - The first is an 2D flash animation and is called The Infinite Quest. It was created for factual children's show about Doctor Who and ran alongside Series Three.
Then you have a 3D CGI animation called Dreamland, that was created for the official website and was shown between David Tennant's second-to-last story and final story. This hasn't been released in the US yet, but it does come out on 5th October.
    (Both are only on DVD.)

As I said, I wouldn't bother with the spin-offs until you've watched all of Doctor Who, because it'd be a bit too much, especially if you want to see Series Five when the Blu-ray comes out, just focus on one show. For the animations; they're not compulsary because they don't directly relate to the live-action episodes, but they are nice additions and are fun to watch once in a while.

It is a very addictive show, because it is so engaging.

In my view, Series Five is the best, because the new head writer, Steven Moffat, really understands how to write for Doctor Who and doesn't go over-the-top or try to make it bigger every time. So you've can save the best until last.

You may find it difficult getting used to new regular characters for each series, but once you get into it then you'll learn to accept it and find it more enjoyable.

I just thought I'd answer your question about Doctor Who here unless you don't go back to the thread.

Series Five started with a new prouction team, head writer and also of course a new Doctor. This means it is very easy to dive into this series without having seen the previous four, or any of the stories from the original series.

However, as someone else pointed out, if you did watch the first four series and also the specials, then it would explain alot more about the Doctor's background, because this was a reboot and there was a whole new audience out there that needed to understand what the show is about.

If I were you, I would start from the first season of the reboot, because you may understand it better then. You also need to bare in mind the the first four seasons weren't shot in HD, so it's only DVD.

So watch them in this order:-
    Series One
    Series Two
    Series Three
    Series Four
The Complete Specials (which is on Blu-ray, because this was the first time Doctor Who was filmed in HD)

Watch them in this order because this is the order they were shown on TV in, and if you started now, then by the time the Series Five box set comes out then you should be up to speed.

    Hope this helps.
