Looks like I'll finally be getting to Ys VIII PS5 some time in June now that I've wrapped up Tears of the Kingdom. Probably going to take a bit of a gaming break for a bit first then get into that. Will probably also be replaying Spidey Remastered: Now With Ugly Peter Edition and Miles before Spidey 2.

I'd say a lot of that can be chalked up to being a portable game actually. The combat is definitely button-mashy if you aren't mixing it up using different special attacks (I forget what they are called here). I can't say I remember ever getting hung up with any progress blockers but could be that I'm more used to JRPGs or different playstyles that maybe I cleared out whatever needed to be done before I was supposed to. Guess I'll have to pay attention when I get into the PS5 version at some point this year.

I scratch my head over the complaining about the map honestly. It's not great but I don't understand how people got so lost so easily. On my replay I had zero issues with navigation Since I am going to assume you will be sticking to primarily the story and skipping most of the side questing I don't think you'll have any problems. The problem for navigation in that game is the 'field skill' system which is objectively stupid and cleaned up SO much in Torna.

I saw a number of 1st Party games for $30 which is basically the best you can expect from Nintendo and even Sony these days

I didn’t end up picking up any games this year, oh well, with my previously mentioned packed schedule its not a big deal. Ideally Gotham Knights will get that performance patch they promised by the time I have a chance to play it probably in late Spring or early Summer.

I’m only through 2 of 5 regions in Tales but Ys is definitely the better game. I’ve bought it on two systems after all. Not sure when I’ll get to the new version of Ys though as I probably won’t be back at Tales until after Thanksgiving and then Crisis Core drops in December and Fire Emblem in January…then Octopath 2 in February.

Best Buy’s sale was literally live before their ad came out I was hoping for Triangle Strategy hit $30 but Square decided to put almost all their other games on sale instead.

Those are pretty standard fare for JRPGs, so if you continue down the rabbit hole then be prepared to get much more of that.

I’ve put in about 14 hours so far and its much better than the demo was, which I didn’t like. Scarlet Nexus is the superior game so far but this has been no slouch either.

That price point actually happens with some sort of frequency on their first party games but gets lost in the online hyperbole . Triangle Strategy will without doubt hit $29.99 over the next several months since it is a Square game.

It was actually developed entirely for Wii U until late in development, so it looking as good as it does is even more impressive given context. Its been a few years since I played so I don’t remember specifics but I don’t remember thinking there were any problems with the controls, maybe you need to get more JRPGs under your belt for truly convoluted controls

Ahh, makes more sense in that context.

They definitely still look good for sure but I guess I got used to old Naughty Dog pushing the visual envelope so them doing a lackluster visual effort was surprising. It definitely doesn’t take away from the enjoyment of the games in any way and I’m curious to replay them at some point with the unlocked framerate modes.

But Breath of the Wild generated significantly mire income than God of War and that money went into developing smaller games most likely like blockbuster movies finance smaller budget ones. I would love to get their games I don’t buy at launch cheaper like with third parties, but I do understand their model from a business perspective since they have an obligation to their shareholders so I guess this is an agree to disagree point.

Only buying Triangle Strategy “if you play your Switch enough”. Just an odd statement instead of enjoying a game and buying it.

I’m honestly still irritated the PS5 version of 4 and Lost Legacy weren’t better. They are essentially visually identical just like Ghost. At least they run at much higher frame rates now. Which reminds me, Ghost runs at a basically a locked 60 in quality mode, curious we haven’t gotten a VRR patch to unlock it up to a higher frame rate like the other games.

I don’t believe in schilling for any business but in this example I’d say the people keep buying is the perfect reason for not lowering the price. It’d be just throwing money away for no reason. That said, I do think they would get even MORE sales if they lowered the price some, maybe after two years drop the MSRP to even $40 instead of $60. But seeing as they have sold hundreds of millions of copies of first party titles with the current cost structure who am I to presume to know better.
