Yeah, Criterion tried to keep quiet about the issue for years, but I smoked them out.

No, although Contact is one of my all-time favorites! Ellie is actually my avatar~ my eight-year old (now) rescued German Shepherd. She was sitting beside me, 'nosing' my fingers off the keyboard for attention, when I was entering the account, and it just seemed to fit. My initial caption for that photo, as the story was big at the time, was 'You Want to Build What! at Ground Zero?"

Congrats on your 'viral' thread. I was enquiring as to who your avatar was and I just saw a response. she did look familiar but I would never have guessed!

Is your username a reference to Contact by any chance?

Ya, you are right, the prices have sky rocketed, (I think the person that wants 100 dollars is just showing off). I hope you get your order. Part of my order is still pending.

I like the fact Musée d'Orsay was Paris' prior railway station. I was glad to finally see Manet's masterpieces, more so than Monet. Unfortunately, I did not enter Pompidou, I did get to see the build, it really stands out to say the least. It was also pretty cool to see the Stravinsky fountain. That is great that you have been there more than once. I did not visit Versailles either, so hopeful I'll see it my next visit.

BohemianGraham: someone needs to put a mirror under her nose... Haven't seen her around in Internet ages (aka a week or two).

Laid up: I'm not housebound, I ain't dying, so I can't be too melodramatic. Over the last eighteen months or so, some less than generous genetic gifts have begun paying off in dividends that affect my energy and do require a lot of lying down time. Fortunately I can do that. Unfortunately it makes it less likely is 40-year-old curmudgeon is going to find a nice Jewish girl to settle down with and ignore Xmas each year

Speaking of which, if t'is be your holiday, Merry Christmas, sir, to you and yours!

I tried avoiding it since I don't like the idea of "blanket" ignoring people here or in real life; on the other hand I have no patience with that rare breed of what I call "the willfully ignorant" and he posted many times in one of the rare threads we both were paying attention to and he rattled my teeth all the way into my brain -- do I see a dentist? A neurologist? Oy vey!

Sorry for the delay. I use Tapatalk and am mainly mobile. The app is inconsistent with private messages and it turns out doesn't notify me of "wall posts". I tried PM'ing but I think you have it shut off.

Cosmos: embarrassingly, no I haven't read it. Just seen it. I was a kid when it came out but never watched it until well into adulthood. What latchkey kid watches PBS?!? He really was remarkable. Much as I enjoy DeGrasse-Tyson and how much Brian Cox reminds me of Sagan in his sense of wonder, neither has that layer of philosophical underpinning that adds heft to their explorations.

After the crash I mainly lurked. I'm not one for counting posts, etc. but it was frustrating in that the period that was lost was when I had been most active and when I'd put the most thought into posts. When those disappeared I lost interest in investing much energy. The last month or so I've been laid up and had TOO much time, so I seem to have picked back up.

I just re-watched Contact last week for the first time in years, which is why the reference came to mind. It's an uneven film, but I'll take any thoughtful sci-fi any day of the week. I need billions and billions more of movies like that. On the other hand, one rescued Shepherd is worth infinitely more!

The visual pun was actually in reference to ROclockCK. Give it a second. Take your time, it took me since I first started paying attention to these forums in the last nine months. You'll get it. So close, right? On the tip of your tongue? There, you go! To quote the only person on my ignore list, you "got 'em!!"
