What you're describing is exactly why I wouldn't watch it except with the commentary on (especially since I rarely drink). Amazon's got it for ~$23US and I'm having a hard time justifying the purchase for probably a one time listen when that money'd buy a purty nice Criterion instead.

The very concept of "Emo Davy" scares me.
As long as they threw in Peter punching Davy, why not throw in a scene of coked-up Rafelson throwing their manager down a set of stairs during negotiation! I have yet to listen to the HEAD commentary, but the Rafelson interview was nuts.

There was a time I knew a TON about the band, but since my strongest interest was pre-Internet, biographical information wasn't as easy to come by so I know nothing of Phyllis Nesmith or Maggie Trudeau.

Sidenote: After Davy died they spotlighted him on iTunes and his image was frequently near Justin Bieber -- talk about a perfect yet somehow bizarre pairing.

Have you listened to the commentary on this?

If so, is it worth the price of admission? I don't think I could bear watching the movie itself.

I'm not much of TV series person myself. I can also say I don't go for TCM, which is not to say that I don't enjoy some classic films every now and then. I just like Emmy Rossum a lot, in fact I love her to death. I have since The Day After Tomorrow and The Phantom of the Opera. I don't get satellite or cable myself since I just like to watch movies on Blu or DVD as it used to be. I don't like going by TV schedules. I think I might check out Shameless at some point just to see Emmy. I just watched 10 Things I Hate About You today and laughed my butt off. I just finished Gremlins. I highly enjoyed both. I took the chance since I was off to catch up on my blind buys. I was impressed with most of them.

I suspect that I unintentionally tick people off sometimes too. I think phrasing can be an issue sometimes. Have you seen any of the show Shameless? I'm not usually one for TV series, but I love Emmy Rossum and that alone is enough to interest me, despite the fact that it being a Showtime series means that in terms of content it is on par with a hard R rated film.

I have to watch The Eagle tonight. It's one of my major blind buys of the past few weeks. 10 Thing I Hate About You and Gremlins are the only two left after that. Movies are movies and the only times I get defensive is if I sense that someone is openly attacking me or mocking me without reason. I try to avoid it, I really do, but I simply won't roll over for that kind of foolishness without letting them know a thing or two. I will try to keep your advice in mind about what to say on those threads. However, that has only happened a few times on here and I quickly move on. I defend my stance and leave it that way unless someone gets really pushy. I stay civil though. It seems every week I am trekking to Best Buy and I'll spend hours in there somedays just looking without buying anything. Sometimes I'll make a selection and others I won't.

Thank you. I will keep those in mind. I'm not a Criterion collector, but there are a few I do want to have. Namely Beauty and the Beast, Seven Samurai, Yi Yi, The Makioka Sisters, and of course Godzilla. Criterions are expensive, but when you think about the fact that they release films that likely no other studio will ever release and give great packages to boot, it's understandable. Thank you for understanding my reasoning on why Kubrick is not for me. It's cool to meet two people who don't hold that kind of thing against someone. I love movies to the point of obsession, but they are just movies after all. As amazing as they may be movies are movies and not to be taken so seriously that they become contention points between people. And I went to bed shortly before 12 a.m. myself so I feel you on that. I'm off today and tomorrow, but I have to be in to work at 3:30 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Girl, you seem really cool. I knew you were joking on that thread. I saw a question that you were asking and I tried to answer it as honestly and efficiently as I could. Keep on keeping on.

The danger is that when you talk about the movie, you will always have a few that will just have to act like you are insulting them because you did agree with them. Everytime I see a movie (I see them late cause I rent a lot) I like to go into the thread of the movie and make a post on what I like or dislike and my general feeling about. Right after they come out looking for blood cause you did not like the movie. The last one was Antichrist which I saw last weekend. I made a comment as where glad I saw it but really I did not find it that amazing and I will not bother to see it again. The following post were fun

Hello good afternoon, sorry to jump in here but wanted to comment on one of your post from earlier this morning (or maybe last night) I also have notice some change in Criterion fans. Not that the fans were not shall we say arrogant and snobish in the old days but what I have notice in the last 4 or 5 years is more and more people buying Criterion movie more as a status then anything else. That is the feeling I am getting "hey! I buy Criterion so I know cinema" and not because they are actually interested in the movies. Plus it seem more and more they would rather have their favorite director's movie in the collection as a sign of status, thus all the calls for Nolan and others who really should just remain in the main releases of studios. Most of them just do not see the Criterion should be releasing movies that have no chance to being done by regular studios since they just won't care. You think WB would care about releasing movies of Ozu
