Just wanted to let you know that the UHD version of Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is going to destroy your retinas, in the best way possible.

This is what you'll show people to sell them on 4K/HDR.

Thanks for the thoughts. I'll say one thing, Arrow releases overall more enjoyable movies than Synapse and Criterion.

I stand by every word. Criterion have this cultish following which means that they cannot do any wrong but they've had some dreadful problems with their compression these last few years. They're improving it to be sure, but they're still not on the same level as what Arrow - or rather freelance compressionist David Mackenzie - is able to produce. Factor that into their superb in-house restorations and it's a winning combination.

Heck of it is Arrow were known as something of a joke just a few years ago, being this upstart British label putting out middling editions of old horror classics, but that they've come on so far in such a short time and stuck it to yer Criterions and yer Synapses means that, pound for pound, they're the best in the world for me. Not infallible to be sure, but not even Criterion can lay claim to being that

Geoff, I read your review on "To Live and Die in L.A." and enjoyed it. You said this:

"I honestly don’t think there’s anyone better than Arrow at film restoration and video compression in the world right now."

Do you think Arrow surpasses Criterion and Synapse? I can always spot a messy transfer and absolutely know about gradient issues with banding but I'm not a pro at film technology and Criterion has definitely shown film grain representation that is like a short hair sweater. Fuzzy, tight and beautiful. Ouch, that sounded naughty.

What are your thoughts of the comparison?

You just had to show up my TV in less than a month, didn't you! Couldn't let me be cooler for even 30 days!

Geoff, I know from previous posts you have a non-HDR Sony TV like me. Two questions, if I may: one, do you prefer non-HDR, or just haven't had a chance to purchase a new tv, and two, I know you like the Panny 4k player best, but I have the Samsung and Phillips, so which one of those you think is best? Cheers, mate!--Bladerunner
