It might sound silly but it really did look like the actors were standing in front of you, the scene with Dave Bautista in Blade Runner 2049 was just so smooth and it was just him standing there and turning his head, the clips from Jurassic World and the dinosaurs jumping onto the screen and the action scenes in Jumanji looked great. It was so bright and colourful too but I know that's part of the settings they use in shops.

I have other RAW files of instore demos and I know there are some Youtube channels with 4K content and they all look fantastic, some of them are very fluid also, all the sport stuff too but that was a big difference I noticed today and I got 4K versions of those scenes on Youtube and it wasn't the same. Not a lot of judder but just very slow, not as quick as what I saw today.

What about it looked nicerer to you?

I've had a 120Hz panel for a while. 120 is an exact multiple of 24 (x5) so 24fps content plays without any added judder, it's just duplicating the frames.

But 24 into 60 doesn't go so the TV (or player, if preferred) has to do something very similar to ye olde 3:2 pulldown and create a set of intermediate frames/fields, this can add a more pronounce judder to the image.

Do you think 60hz or 120hz is better for watching 4K content? I seen some at 120hz today and thought it was a lot nicer than the 60hz I can display at home.

    Hi Geoff. Great cats btw.
You use Mario from eBay for imports right? Have you experienced any recent problems, like major delays?
Hope you don’t mind the PM.
    Thanks

Yes, 100%. When I had a passive set then I got that 'looking through a window' feeling with regularity, Creature from the Black Lagoon is insanely good for that kind of 3D effect. Active 3D is shit, on Sony TVs anyway.

Haha, I'll go take a look then. I'm just surprised 3D is criticised by so many after giving it another shot last night. Maybe passive sets just bring the best out of 3D in terms of brightness/crosstalk/flicker, but the depth effect can, at times, really make it feel like you're looking through a window. Especially with a film like Dial M For Murder, where so much of it is set in a small, enclosed space.

Would you take good 3D over regular 2D on a passive set?

Oh man I loved 3D when I had a passive TV. Couldn't get enough of it. Not everything was amazing so I done called it as I done seen it e.g. Dragonfly Squadron is laughable B-movie junk but HOLY SHIT the 3D is incredible. If you just do a search for my posts in the 3D Blu forum you should be able to find my opinions on various 3D movies up until about 2 years ago when I dropped it like a hot potato after I changed my TV. Someone else recently commented that they enjoyed looking back through my discourse on there, it ain't all gold but you might find a nugget or two.

    Hey, Geoff.

I know you're not much of a 3D guy anymore with the rise of UHD and all that, but in a general Blu-ray sense, would you have usually taken 3D over 2D? Go for both? I know it may vary on a title-per-title basis, but in general, what was your stance on 3D?

Bit of a strange question, I know, but as someone who's wayyy late to the 3D party after avoiding it for years (had various problems with it in the past), I'm kind of interested to hear some opinions about it from some of the more reputable posters on here.

Yay! I'll remember to put my sunnies on and get the factor 50 out. Can't wait to see it.
