P.T.U. -- Yes, I like Johnnie To's early films a lot, but not so much his recent work. I always thought that with his international success and high-profile at various festivals, and especially at Cannes and Venice, Criterion would introduce him in the Collection, but they never did. The neo-noir thriller Exiled would have made quite an impression, and it would look gorgeous if remastered properly.

The two films that you defended really should not have to be defended, because they are both very strong. You probably know that the longer cut of The Handmaiden is out on Blu-ray on the other side of the Atlantic

As much as physically possible, and as much as financially possible, I do indeed plan on continuing the strong Asian coverage we have. Sometimes it isn't possible to get the releases we wish to cover before street date because of various restrictions, but as I noted above, we will have reviews for as many of the quality Asian films that arrive on Blu-ray as possible.

As far as Korean cinema is concerned, these two releases will be covered by the end of the week:

I feel a certain kinship strong enough to influence my purchases (Tazza, Last Year at Marienbad, Monkey Magic, et al.), a respect I have never accorded to any other film critic in my half-century quest for entertainment.
