The books have to finish FIRST before the TV series does.

No it doesnt. As D&D have said. The tv show will reach the same conclusion but the journey and path wont be identical to the books. There will be a ton the show wont cover or do the same as the books. And with whats known about this season its clear that D&D are striking out on their very own path to get to whatever George's conclusion is.
Sorry folks but the show isnt halting or delaying or anything else. It will finish in 2017 regardless of the situation with the books. D&D have said more than once now that 7 seasons is what they want to do. Theyve also commented about the fact that the child actors arent getting any younger and that this cant go on forever. HBO didnt just buy this property. They bought D&D's pitch and they pitched a show without delay. HBO isnt going to replace D&D and D&D arent delaying so I dont know what to tell you guys other than the reality of the situation. The show will finish before the books. I came to terms with that when the Night's King walked onto screen and when 2015 arrived without a release date for WOW.
