I do use a fan on my Onkyo 805 since it is installed in my entertainment center. I do have nearly 2 ft of open space above the rcvr with a vent cut in the rear of the center.

I am following up to my post from yesterday. I went to Fry's and picked up the Antec A/V cooler for $69.99 ($29.99 after $40 mail in rebate). The unit works very well and is extremely quite. Instead of the fan blowing down on the unit like before, the Antec uses two blower fans to pull the heat off the top and exhaust to the rear. The unit is made of glass filled nylon with an aluminum plate ontop. It is designed to allow you to stack your other components on top of the receiver without them getting hot. For now I will not stack anything atop the 805 and just use it to exhaust the heat. I will include pics (I'm at work). Here is the website with specs:
