Since you asked ... In an impatient mood I'll watch a bit, if boring fast forward to an arbitrary location, watch a bit more, repeat. Occasionally I get hooked midway through, in which case I re-start from the beginning and watch the film properly.

I do this as a time-efficient way of "auditioning" lots of titles, especially comedies (research interest of mine), for maximum exposure to content. Esp. for all the garbage in HD on cable. I'm a swine rooting around in the dirt for the rare truffle.

I'm generally looking for decent comic premises, good writing (line for line as well as plot & scene construction) and interesting performances. In this case I stopped for Dan Ackroyd's appearance, then switched it off after a perfectly stupid scene featuring a guy with a 10-second memory. As far as I'm concerned 50 First Dates is Memento being misplayed for trite laughs. But that's just a matter of personal preference.
