Default how do you convince your friends Blu-ray is worth it?

Just had an interesting conversation with two of my work buddies. I went in to buy T2 on blu-ray (its just out in ireland today) i paid 24.99 euro for it, (about 38 dollars) Anyway on the way back to the office, the lads were laughing at me saying the whole HD thing was a con, for the movie industry to get more money from us, and in ten years time there will be something new, and i'll be buying T2 on super duper blu-ray at full price again..

They questioned whether the 'average' person would be able to tell the difference between the DVD of a non special effects laiden film like Full Metal Jacket to the Blu-Ray.. and whether the Blu-Ray justified the 3 times price the dvd could be picked up at in bargain bins..

Its a fair point i guess, everyone doesnt have and wont have equipment that can do losseless audio, 1080p and have ISF calibrrated screens.

Anyway I have invited them out to the house to demo some stuff in two weeks time so I'm hoping they take me up on the offer. I Robot is going to be the first disc I show them

What are other people's opinion on this - how can you convince the masses that Blu-Ray is worth it?

When you consider a lot of people are buying HD ready screens (in ireland anyway) that arent even 1080p and have poor black levels etc.. its a hard fight to win

i spent a lot (in relation to what i can afford) on my tv/ps3/receiver/speakers as i can and do appeciate it but not everyone does to the same degree. Just having a big screen is enough for most people.. never mind what the quality of the picture its showing is like

Cheers,
Mick
