The Birds isn't an untouchable classic, and I actually think it's about time they did a remake. It will probably end up as "bad CGI birds attack people in overly gory ways," which would be disappointing. But if they actually try to make it good, it can be good. Using that same premise with modern filmmaking is welcome as long as it's not a crappy ass movie.

It won't be good and The Birds is a classic, alas nothing is untouchable in Hollywood.
While I find it absurd that people on forums feel it's still obligatory to react with shock and incomprehension to the announcement of yet another remake of a classic horror film, the remakes which work the least are the ones where the films have such a strong signature of a great director. Going up against Hitchcock will always result in a massive fail.
