Default Red: The Series = Movie Based on Comic/Films Headed to NBC

Quote:
NBC Developing TV Series Based On RED Comics/Movies

DC Comics currently has four television series (Arrow, Gotham, The Flash, iZombie) on air, three more (Supergirl, Legends Of Tomorrow, Lucifer) set to premiere next season, three pilots (Preacher, Titans/Blackbirds, Powerless) ordered, and a handful more (Krypton, DMZ, Scalped, Amped, etc.) currently in development.

Long list right? Well, it looks like that long list just got a little longer.

Deadline is reporting that NBC is actively developing an hour-long series based on Summit Entertainment's Red movie franchise, which is based on the limited comic series, of the same name, published by Homage Comics and later distributed by DC Comics. The producers of the hit 2010 film and its 2013 sequel, Lorenzo di Bonaventura & Mark Vahradian, will oversee development alongside screenwriters Jon Hoeber & Erich Hoeber, who wrote both films. Lionsgate TV & Di Bonaventura Pictures Television will produce.

Details about the series remain scarce, but the show is said to be set in a bit more grounded and authentic world, when compared to the films, that will focus on "the characters' darkly hilarious struggles to survive civilian life as they simultaneously fight for and against the very organization that threw them out."

The two films featured an ensemble cast that featured Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, Helen Mirren, Mary-Louise Parker, Karl Urban, Anthony Hopkins, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Byung-hun Lee, and Brian Cox, amongst others.
