There's several cuts.
-The theatrical cut.
-The director's cut, which comes from the theatrical cut but has some extra gore (like when The Shape slams that guy's head into the bars near the end, he actually pushes his head through the bars and it splits into pieces), and a couple of extra scenes (the new sheriff talking to Loomis for one).
-The producer's cut.
-The workprint, which is essentially the producer's cut with the timecode at the bottom and with music from the original Halloween used in place of Alan Howarth's music, which was yet to be incorporated in the film.
-The television cut, which is the theatrical cut with some extra scenes from the producer's cut like the extra campus scenes with Kara Strode and the extended conversation with Loomis and Wynn at Loomis' house near the beginning of the film. It's the closest to being the perfect cut of the film in my opinion. It's what AMC used to show as well as the old superstations and networks like TBS, TNT, WSBK Boston, WNAC Providence, WGN, etc.

I can confirm that all of these exist. I've got them all on DVD
