So I suppose I can blame this entire fascination on my father - about 20 months ago he gave me a little Philips HTiB for Christmas, a simple little machine with a DVD player, a sub, and satellite speakers - but it was a huge difference for me. I became hooked on movies of all types; moreso on my birthday when I purchased myself a 32" Vizio; because before that I had been running a 20" tube and my PS2 as my DVD player!
So fast forward to October when I picked up my Panny 10 as my first Blu-ray, then switched in for a PS3 after a month...and then picked up a Samsung HTiB for '07 Christmas...and a Philips 47" that I bought myself for my birthday in January (geez, what is it with me giving myself presents?!).
So this has been my setup for 8 months:
And as early as April I began looking into component replacements. And I'll spare you the epic tale that is, but let's just say 3 months of hard work to pay for this stuff, hours of online research into the wee hours of the nights, hours of listening to bazillions of speakers at all sorts of audio stores, listening to all sorts of advice - and last week I made my decisions, and now I have all my new equipment:
It includes all sorts of fun toys!
Polk Monitor 50s that I'm going to use as floor-standing surrounds, and a Martin Logan Dynamo that I've loved as a subwoofer from Day 1....
A Marantz SR-7002 that came highly recommended from everyone, some acoustical panels I will try my best to 'tastefully place'...
A Wall-mount to give the top of my stand to my Bowers and Wilkins HTM62 center, a big ol' fun box of Monoprice cables/wires/accessories and a Philips DivX/DVD player (since not all my DivX play on my PS3)...
...and my crown jewels, a pair of Bowers and Wilkins 683s.
So as a dear friend of mine makes me breakfast and yells at me for not having her favorite juice, I make this thread to chronicle its assembly...redoing the entire Living Room area, moving old stuff, putting in new stuff, arranging it all and so forth (I've learned my best at positioning and placing speakers by now)...and it's incredibly exciting. I'll try to update every few hours or so.
Onward and outward! Let the fun commence! Wheee
