Without rambling on ........... the PS3 loads faster than most standalones, plays video games, access to the Playstation Network should you choose to use it, firmware updates via ethernet or wireless (I have LAN connection that works fast & easy), easily portable should you choose to take with you, upscales SD, A/V quality is awesome on nearly all TV's when set up properly.
The only CON I have about the PS3 is the fact that after a couple hours or so of game playing or movie watching, the unit does throw out a good amount of heat.
IMO, for the average consumer, the PS3 is the only way to go.
PS: be sure to add "Cars" and "Ratatouille" to your BD library. You won't be sorry!
