Like you I have an older Pioneer bd player (09fd) that couldn't play one particular movie (can't recall which one...but it worked after a firmware update). I'm waiting to see if they release a new reference uhd player this spring.

I had that issue with
Snowpiercer. The extras disc played fine on my Sony BDP-S550, but the movie disc wouldn't. It did play on the BD-ROM drive in my laptop, though. I looked to see if there was a firmware update for the Sony player, but it's up to date.
