I rented the 3D version. I thought the effects were awesome. The PQ isn't top notch. It was a little soft but not that bad. The AQ doesn't make the grade most of the time. The sound was flat and lacking in detail and that goes for the dialogue too. If you haven't already guessed, the audio tracks are lossy Dolby Digital. One thing good about the audio mix is that there is plenty of sound effects coming from the surrounds. I felt immersed in the sound field. The combined effect of the 3D sound field and 3D picture added to the realism. The LFE was rather weak during most of the film except during the T. rex scene. My subwoofer shook the house during that scene. It was a rather fun filled adventure movie in 3D and I couldn't hold back some outbursts of laughter either. The screenplay was rather weak though. The writers took much liberty and departed radically from the Jules Verne novel. I also wrote a user review for the movie. But that's the gist of it. It's definitely worth renting the 3D version. I recommend renting first before buying.
