The Merry Gentleman is one of my top five favorite Christmas movies; ironic, because it's a very disturbing & dark (but ultimately uplifting) movie. I like the elements of redemption & renewal in the story, and the acting is extremely well-done & understated. I try & make a point of watching it around the holidays every year.

I've been a Kelly McDonald fan ever since seeing her in Trainspotting back in 1996; and, though I'm not a huge Michael Keaton fan, he's great in TMG - in fact, I think it's his best film. Great directorial debut for him as well.

It's interesting that this film has some similarities to one of my other favorite movies, Allan Baron's Blast of Silence (1961) - this film is also about a hit man who has second thoughts about his profession - and also takes place during the Christmas holidays.
