FWIW, I haven't used the SC2 model, but rather the SC3s which are designed to accommodate the j-card. The SC2 clearly indicates it's for steels without a j-card. I prefer to preserve the j-card, so SC3 is the model I prefer. I do access my steels frequently, and I do not have the aforementioned problems sliding them in and out of the SC3s. The j-card stays in place facilitating loading and unloading.

Again, SteelBook Centrals' are the only ones I've used, so I'm not making a comparison, but it is essential you order the correct model for the intended application as they have pretty tight tolerances (which is a good thing).
