The PS3 does not match other A/V equipment and as others on this forum may say it is not the best blu ray player on the market.

Let's have some specifics on why. A broad claim needs to be backed up with some facts.
The only "deficiency" the PS3 has compared to standalone BD players is a lack of bit streaming capability of lossless formats like Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD. The PS3 internally decodes those formats and outputs them as multichannel linear PCM instead. I'll say that's not all that much of a deficiency. The PS3 is one very powerful computing device -much more powerful than than a standalone BD player. The PS3 decodes those formats very accurately. And then if a problem turns up, that can be addressed with a firmware update. Not every standalone BD player can manage that.
The PS3 has fantastic image quality. It holds its own against most standalone models. Some reviewers have given a couple of Panasonic models a slight edge.
Nothing compares to PS3 in terms of BD disc loading speed and BD Live access times. The PS3 by far is the speed king of the bunch in that area.
