I replaced it/them with Corel WinDVD 9 Plus Blu-ray. Works fine.
Also have PowerDVD 8 Ultra - plays anything.
ArcSoft TMT - plays everything arguably better than even PowerDVD.

There is no longer remote control use aside from volume for DVD/BD playback with these applications.
Oh well, the discs play!
It must be different then with other VAIOs, because on some the installed WinDVD BD player works, and others it doesn't, and on some version 9 doesn't work either.

I notice in your sig you've got the Mat's BD player listed as your installed unit - most of the VAIO's I've encountered where people are having problems are the ones that are using the Sony/Optiarc BD player. If you're using one of the new Mat's BD units, that's likely the reason your system is able to use the other programs. But that doesn't mean that it will apply to everyone, as not all systems have the same BD unit installed as you do - you can't just assume that all systems are like yours or that your fix will work in their systems.

My own system has a BC-5500A player, and I had the same playback problems most people are having. The HP update to QuickPlay got rid of the problem, including the "firmware update required" message. Obviously other 3rd party vendors haven't been as fast responding to the problem in their systems.

You're right about one thing - if you can get the disks to play, that's all that you need. But that's the trick isn't it?
