I'm not sure what you mean by MIX or COMMON brand speakers?

If you're asking whether or not you should or could mix different speaker brands in your 5.1 set-up, the answer is both yes and no.

Personally I would NOT MIX speaker brands in a set-up.
You certainly can mix Floorstanders and Bookshelfs, which is what the majority of people do. Or you could go with all Floorstanders (not realistic most times) or all Bookshelfs (great for limited space restrictions).

If you are going to mix speakers brands, make sure the FRONTS and CENTRE channels are from the same company. DO NOT MIX those. And then for the rears (which are less critical) buy something that suits your application or environment.
