The point of having a good OP is to have all available information in the first post, because no one ever wants to read through the entire thread, and if they don't see the information in the first post, they'll ask it. Gathering all information (or non-information as the case may be) in the first post really cuts down on people asking the same questions repeatedly in the thread. But in my time here on this forum so far, it seems very few people care about keeping OPs up to date with good information. (And the Blu-ray.com database entry page is definitely no replacement for a thread's OP, since there's usually a lot of info that comes up in discussions that is outside the spec fields of the database.)
