Yes, I've tried both finalized and not finalized. I'm using a CD-R but will try a CD-RW. I don't have a DVD recorder.

I saw the compatibility matrix on their website, but it seems to me that if the upgrade needed to be in a jpeg or mp3 format, that's how it would be supplied on their website instead of an iso file.
