I searched the Panasonic website and it appears the SA-PT860 is a UK system. I can only find the SC-PT760 or PT960 on the US site and both of which share the same user manual. According to this the optical connection only supports DD or PCM (page 11). On page 34, in order to use the optical conection you must select the
D-IN (Digital In) instead of the
AUX. I'd recommend referring to the UM as this page also has you make a few other changes in the D-IN setup.
