You can't transfer your DVD to blue yourself. The studios do that with the original source film. You will have to purchase the movie again if you want to watch it in high definition.
But good news! Your new player should be able to upconvert your old DVDs to make them look a lot better than a regular DVD player would on your fat new TV. Pop one in and see for yourself! I still use my upconverting DVD player for all my regular DVDs and I only use my blueray player for blues. Pretty sweet.
