I also have this player, and hooked it up via DVI out-of-the-box without a hitch. Your player could be set to output at 1080p (someone might have pressed the "HDMI" button on the remote too many times), in which case you will get no picture on your particular television. Press the "HDMI" button on the remote until "1080i" is displayed on the front of the player (see page 13 of the manual for further clarification)...your problem should be solved.

Your TV has VGA, not DVI. Components are fine for 1080i TVs, however (just keep the cables under 6'). Let me know if changing the setting doesn't make the HDMI output work, though.
