Strike one AND two.

You don't need the Monster Cables unless you're in the 1% of users who experience problems with cheaper cables.

As for calibration, try to use a DVD or Blu-Ray calibration disc to get your colors and picture to optimal settins. You can also look around these forums for your TV model or on TVtweak.com or the AVS forums for settings that should help for your environment. If your TV is using the original settings, it may be way too bright, blurry, or ugly right now.
