I feel like that kinda just reflects the viewers own wants and expectations.
So many people disliked It Comes At Night because they were expecting a physical creature or monster to be stalking them, and were disappointed when there wasn't a physical presence. I personally had no thoughts or notions of what "It" could be, and ended up loving the movie as a result.
As long as you go into this movie with a completely open mind, and don't think about all the possibilities of what could be doing this to the main characters, you should enjoy the film. Always go into movies with reserved expectations and knowing as little as you can about it!
