So I just caught up with this, and I think I actually like it better than Obvious Child. I think the topic of adultery is a little easier for more people to resonate with than having an abortion/unwanted pregnancy. I think it handled it with the same amount of grace, care, tact as Obvious Child, while still holding onto the quirky, light hearted tone without actually poking fun at the subject matter.
This cast is also leagues above Obvious Child. I mean, not only do you have the wonderful Jenny Slate, but you also get Edie Falco, John Turturro, Jay Duplass, and Finn Wittrock who are all amazing in their roles.
This movie made me tear up, and has so many heartfelt moments. Especially packing them in towards the end. Gillian Robespierre is really making a name for herself in the family/relationship drama world. Similar subject matters that someone like Joe Swanberg deals with, but a little happier, and a lot lighter in tone.
I already want to watch this again.
