I saw the South Pasadena locations on my own in 2001 while there for my first ever horror convention. It was surreal to stand before Laurie's house and the Myers' house. The Myers house was relocated and fixed up but Laurie's house still looked the same as it did in 1978. Even more impressive, the owners play up its use in the film and welcome fans' presence. There's a sign on the front porch designating it as Laurie's house and they even have a plastic pumpkin fans can use in pictures sitting on the column that Laurie sits on in the film. I've even heard before that fans have encountered the owners, who are very friendly and share stories about the filming; they've lived there since before the film was shot.
I also took the bus tour during the 25th anniversary convention in 2003, where we got to step inside the foyer of the Myers house, which was pretty cool. But just visiting the locations on my own was the best experience.
