My Sony BDP-S1 will resume after shutting down if you are playing a SD-DVD, but it won't resume if you shut down a Blu-ray disc.
The non-resume and the fact that it is a little slow are the only two things the bug me about the BDP-S1. I figure it is a first generation player so its not a big deal. I am sure they will resolve this problem soon. Probably with the third generation player.
