sorry, didn't mean to imply he necessarily did anything DIFFERENT, the bulbs on my proj. TV are also user-replaceable, but (if I remember correctly) the service center didn't have any more bulbs at the time.

There was apparently an issue w/the early mercury bulbs (that caused them to burn out prematurely) in the model Sony set that I bought, but the only thing that was different w/the technician was that he presumably had the newer bulbs that worked correctly.
