Great. Have you SEEN how people respond to my comments and opinions? These are not friendly people. They show me zero respect for anything I say and you want me to be friendly with them? Saying I hate the amount of grain in Ghostbusters 4K should not result in people saying I don't remember a THING from the theater and NO ONE on here should ask for even mild grain reduction even if that is NOT what anyone saw in the theater!!! That's Bullshit!

YOU be friendly with that guy. The movie is unwatchable for me. You and others may enjoy swimming in grain, but too much is too much for some of us. There's a difference between a film and a movie. Grain doesn't exist in digital as such so someone asking me WHY I'm reading a 4K forum like this guy below is beyond absurd. Grain was one of the things that did NOT bother me with The Matrix 4K.

Ghostbusters has maybe 2-4x the grain and it doesn't blend well for some reason. It doesn't look much better in 2K either. The previous iTunes copy had far less grain. Go look in the Top Gun 3D thread. I'm the one defending the director there as most people HATE grain with 3D. I don't want a cartoon look to get rid of grain, but there's a point where it interferes with the enjoyment of the movie itself. That point probably varies by the individual, but not in this guy's mind. It's his way or the highway. That is childish behavior. Real adults learn to live with the fact everyone has different tastes and opinions.

You have no idea how old some of the people here are. To say so without, or even with, the knowledge of how old someone is, that is just straight condescension.
I'm referring to behavior not age. I've known 5 year olds with more maturity than some of the people on here. I also believe in treating people with the same respect they have shown me.

Regarding the topic of grain/de-graining:

This is my opinion, and the opinion of many here on the forums, in this day and age, de-graining should NOT be a thing. You kill fine detail in the process of removing the grain. If you prefer to have less grain, your TV should have setting to help with that. There are so many examples where the studios have destroyed what could've been a great image by applying too much DNR.
You can have your opinion. I'd normally agree. But Ghostbusters is awful to watch. There are some TV settings on SOME sets, but they're not remotely the same as even Handbrake's tools. I also find it strange that some of the grain defenders don't want ANY for a 3D conversion.

See above. WTF does grain have to do with 4K??? Digital movies have none. Wonder Woman was 35mm film. Where is all its grain? Ghostbusters is in a league of its own. There may be more out there that bad with grain, but I have not seen them. The Matrix is fine in terms of grain. I have issues with the new blue colors used inside The Matrix scenes but not the grain.

Either way, grain is an anomaly. It has absolutely NOTHING to do with the movie itself. If it could be removed without losing any detail, I'd say good riddance. It's like tape noise. It's an artifact of recording to tape. That noise did not exist in the real world and neither does film grain! It's a chemical error on the film and varies with film formulation, speed and exposure. Some levels of tape noise are tolerable on an album. Too much noise and you're listening to more noise than music!

Removing it might affect some low level detail, but with really top notch tools, it can be very minimal indeed. Removing at least enough so that it's enjoyable again makes sense to me. But that level is subjective and some will always take either extreme for various reasons. All or nothing doesn't work well in society. Look at the state of US politics.
