most people can't tell the difference between HDMI and component video. both look amazing and both are considered high def video cables.

the only benefit of course with HDMI is that the audio is carried with the one cable. HDMI is also all digital, so no conversion is needed to be displayed on your TV.

Component is an analog video signal and needs to be converted to digital or from digital to be displayed. Both are good.

Some people say HDMI is the way to go.. and it's the current best way to solved complicated audio and video wiring problems.
