He didn’t want to in the film either, did you not watch? He was content with war profiteering until he saw the liquidation of the ghetto and was appalled, which is consistent with other historical accounts (though how he witnessed it is amplified in the film for dramatic purposes). Nobody made him do it, he changed his mind.
EDIT: is Emilie’s involvement with rescuing Jews downplayed in the film? Yes, but she didn’t
make him do it.
