I know it's not necessary, but sometimes you can't hear people talking when you send DTS and DD over LPCM. Just music and sound effects. Never have this problem when I bitstream dvds to my receiver. (Doesn't occur often anyway, but it's nice to have options.)

Sounds like you have something misconfigured, as I have never had this happen. Almost sounds like a loose centre channel speaker cable.
