They don't have the best reputation, but I love McG's CHARLIE'S ANGELS and CHARLIE'S ANGELS: FULL THROTTLE: Two candy-colored, monumentally campy and energetic films that just wanted to give the audience a good time. Lucy Liu, Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz made a terrific comedic team (with great support from Bill Murray in the first film and the late, lamented Bernie Mac in the second). Actors such as Sam Rockwell, Justin Theroux, Tim Curry, Demi Moore, Kelly Lynch, Carrie Fisher, Crispin Glover, Luke Wilson, John Cleese and so many others took some eccentric roles and just ran with them. Still, that infectiously charming and good-humored tall blonde knockout Cameron Diaz was the standout, her eager willingness to engage in full-blown silliness never dampening her intelligence or sex-appeal (a quality she shared with many of the actresses in 30's and 40's screwball comedies). I really miss seeing her in movies.
And bonus points for the music in both films, which utilized pop classics and one-hit wonders to great and fun effect.
